For which substrates are SELIT underlays suitable?
The subfloor is a decisive factor when choosing the underlay.
As a rule, a distinction is made between two types of subfloor: mineral subfloors such as screed, concrete or asphalt, and wooden substrates, for example old wooden floorboards. However, wood flooring, laminate or vinyl click flooring can also be installed as floating floors on PVC, linoleum or tiles. It is important to ensure that the substrate is free of plasticisers, solvents or other diffusing substances. If this is not the case, as is the case with linoleum or PVC floors, for example, a moisture barrier film is required before laying the underlay to block these substances. SELIT offers the right underlay for each of these areas of application.
On mineral substrates, you have two options:
Either you opt for a combination product consisting of underlay and the necessary moisture protection, or you lay both separately. Our brands for the combination product are SELITAC® pro +, SELITAC® basic +, SELITBLOC® pro + and SELITBLOC® basic +. The ‘Plus’ indicates the function of the integrated moisture protection. If you want to install the moisture protection separately, you can use the SELITAC® and SELITBLOC® products from the pro, eco or basic series and also use the corresponding SELITplus® vapour barrier.
When installing on wooden substrates:
If you have wooden substrates under your floor, it is important to use an underlay without moisture protection. For this purpose, use the SELITAC® and SELITBLOC® products from the pro, eco or basic series. SELITplus™ products should never be used on wooden substrates, as wooden substrates have their own moisture content and moisture protection can restrict or completely prevent the necessary diffusion, which increases the risk of mould growth.
