Floating installation on old wooden floorboards is a special installation situation that requires some preparatory work. This is because the floorboards often have a concave hollow and are higher at the edges than in the middle. The gaps between the floorboards are also often very large.
If there are large uneven areas in such problem areas, these must be levelled out in advance. This can be done using special wood fillers (some of which are fibre-reinforced) or, in the case of very large uneven areas, with dry fill and subsequent installation of OSB boards/installation boards as a floor substrate.
When installing, be sure to choose an underlay without SELITplus® moisture protection, as the moisture that would otherwise be trapped can damage the wooden substrates. We recommend SELITAC® pro 5 mm, SELITAC® pro 3 mm or SELITAC® basic 2.2 mm.
Smaller, isolated uneven areas in the floorboards can be levelled out independently with an underlay from SELIT (e.g. SELITAC® pro 5 mm), depending on the thickness.
